Did you know that the Sunday Scaries has a place in the slang dictionary? The definition is essentially an impending feeling of worry, fear, or anxiety for the upcoming work week or school week. It’s this fear of the unknown, the concern about getting enough sleep, the anxiety about getting everything done and done well. In one way or another, I think we have all been there. ~ Enjoy Your Sunday ~

Take Sunday and enjoy it. It is another day that you have been blessed to see, and you should take advantage of that. Feeling this dread of the upcoming day, can take our ability to relax away. So, delight in going to church, hanging out with family, or reading that book that has been collecting dust from the week before. We don’t know if we have tomorrow. Take power over today.

~ Prepare for Monday ~

I like to feel like I have a handle on the next day—especially at the start of the week. For me, I make sure I have my bag packed, along with a set of workout clothes as I attempt to workout on my lunch break. (sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn’t, but the desire is there)

I also lay out my outfit for the following day so I am not stumbling around in the dark looking for pieces of clothing that have somehow disappeared. This way, I can just grab my clothes and head right to the bathroom to get ready. Saves me time and energy.

I make sure my lunch is packed, and I have a good amount of snacks prepared as well. (those 12 hour days are killer).

All in all, preparing everything for the following day, allows for my brain to ease into the day instead of running around like a crazy person, attempting to pack, get ready and still make it out the door on time.

Try this out. Make an effort to get everything ready for the next day. Even if you work from home. It instills some type of peace of mind where you don’t have to worry about anything come the morning.

~ Find Something that Makes you ~ Laugh

Taking time to do something that gets you laughing can take your mind off of what is making you scared or anxious. It releases healthy endorphins that combat the false realities in your head. Whether that be a comedian on a YouTube video, a movie, a night out with friends, or Apples to Apples with your family; take the time to find the funny in the little moments. Choosing joy in the midst of the unknown, helps the unknown to not feel so big or scary. God is way bigger than anything we face and when we have Him, we have everything we need.

~ Eat a Good Meal ~

This one might not seem like it would help, but trust me. On Sunday night, eat a good meal and go to bed content. More times that I wish to admit I have gone to bed with a grumbly tummy (completely my fault) and it causes my sleep to be interrupted. I wake up feeling tired, restless, and not motivated to do anything. Take the time to eat a hearty meal before hitting the hay on Sunday night.

~ Go to Bed on Time ~

It is so easy to get caught up in cleaning the house, watching a movie, or reading a book that before you know it, the clocks says 11pm. If you have to be to work at 6 or 7, it can cause the early morning hour to come a lot sooner than you’d want. Make an effort to go to bed on time so that you have time to fall into a deep sleep for longer than a couple hours. It can work wonders for the Monday morning ahead.

The Sunday Scaries are a real thing. But with the above tips and tricks, it can make a world of difference. Take care of yourself and enjoy the time that you have instead of looking too far into the future. You work hard and deserve time to relax. Don’t let that time be overshadowed by thinking about the upcoming to-do lists and meetings. Work/life balance needs to be implemented. You can’t just accept that the rest of your life will be given to someone else. Make your life your own.
